How to Make a Red Monkey Mask for Chinese New Year
We are looking forward to celebrating Chinese New Year this year! The celebrations start on 8th February and finish on 15th February and we are getting ready to celebrate in a different city this year which is very exciting!
Each new year has an animal associated with it and this year it is the 9th animal making it the Year of the Monkey! 5 different elements are also associated with the new year and this year it is FIRE so Peakles is making a Red Monkey Mask to wear!
paper plate red tissue paper gold marker pen or paint
scissors red ribbon
cup (to draw around) red card gluestick
How We Made It
First we held the paper plate up to her face and drew eye holes on it which she cut out. We also put two smaller holes on either side of the plate to place the ribbon in later. Peakles then drew around the cup on the red card to make three circles which she cut out. On one circle she drew a smile with the gold marker to make a mouth. She then drew some circles inside the other two other circles to make ears.
Next she tore up the red tissue paper and stuck the pieces on the paper plate until it was covered.
Then Peakles glued the mouth and the ears on the paper plate before we used red ribbon to tie the mask on.
I think this Red Monkey Mask is just perfect for celebrating the Chinese New Year! Peakles cannot wait to wear it for the celebrations!
