We were all in the garden when Peakles shouted ‘Butterfly come back!’ She was there when our live butterflies were released and flew away and a few days later she saw a similar looking butterfly in the garden. Of course it flew away just as she ran across the grass towards it but she seemed so sad that it had gone.
Peakles had not wanted to let the butterflies go. We had explained that they were wild creatures and it was the right thing to do. She agreed that it would make them happy so she had blown them kisses as they flew over the hedge and away.
After seeing the butterfly a few days later she said that she wanted to make a beautiful butterfly that would stay in the garden forever! We decided to make some butterfly garden decorations to remind us of our butterfly friends and make the garden look pretty. We had already made some from painted paper plates.
Peakles wanted to have butterflies for our plant pots to keep the garden fairies company!
Foam cut into butterfly shapes, drinking straws, glitter glue pens, double sided sticky tape, scissors (adult use only)
What we did:
We took some pre cut foam shapes and decorated them using our glitter glue pens.
While we waited for them to dry we used some that were already decorated……..
…….and fixed them onto drinking straws with the double sided sticky tape
Peakles was able to follow the simple instructions and managed to create another butterfly decoration without any help from me!
We both found this a fun and easy activity to do and Peakles was very excited to put her butterflies in the planter with the fairies!
I must admit they add a splash of colour to this corner of the garden and I secretly think the fairies are happy too!
