‘Fridge Magnets!’ Boomed Grandad Peakles! ‘I need Fridge Magnets!’
Lots of people like to use magnets to hold papers and important notices in one place. We have a magnetic noticeboard at home but her Grandparents use their fridge freezer as a noticeboard. My parents fridge fascinates me as it is quite organic, with little notices being added and taken down as well as ones that have been there for years. There are some little jolly notes or drawings and some of the fridge magnets themselves have great sentimental value. But due to curious Peakles and a curious cat sometimes the fridge loses a magnet and the rest of them have to deal with the bulging notes and papers!
Peakles had been making some other arts and crafts projects recently.
She really enjoyed swirling the purple paints, adding silver or gold paints and squashing it with her hands! At Peakle Pie we always use paper plates when we are painting and I save them for other art projects.
This seemed like a perfect time to use one of those artistic painted plates! I had purchased from a pound (dollar) store a set of three jazzy fridge magnet picture frames earlier in the year and I though it would make a perfect little gift for Grandad Peakles!
I took the magnets apart carefully as the fronts were made of glass. I then used the inner part of the picture frame as a template and cut out three squares from the art plate.
We put them all together and added them to a magnetic surface. They looked like a Small World Gallery of modern artworks!
Grandad Peakles was very happy with his new fridge magnets and they now have pride of place on their fridge freezer. It is definitely a simple, cheap and effective arts and crafts gift idea we will revisit!
