Clean Mud with Herbs and Flowers
Peakles and I are really excited about taking part in the 12 Months of Sensory Dough this year. We love being outdoors and are always collecting things from walks along the beach or in the countryside. This is one of the reasons why we are featuring Nature Led Dough – incorporating Outdoors and Nature into our dough theme each month. For more information about the 12 Months of Sensory Dough then read about it on our main page here.
Please note that this is NOT an edible dough so should NOT be used unsupervised or with children who like to taste/eat dough!
1 toilet roll
1 cup of water
1 cup of coconut scented hair conditioner
fresh chives and mint
Peakles poured the conditioner and the water into a clean bowl. She then shredded the toilet paper into the bowl and mixed it all together with her hands until she had a white, sweet smelling ball of mud dough!
Clean Mud Dough
Playing and Exploring
We put the dough on the table with a variety of different items that Peakles had chosen from her play kitchen as well as the flowers and herbs.
Peakles began pushing her fingers into the dough and squeezing it through her hands. She said it looked like noodles! She then began flattening the dough and adding the herbs. As she squashed it she noticed that the scent changed and said it reminded her of pudding!
After a while she began to build a ‘wedding cake’ using the heart shaped cookie cutters. She rolled the clean mud into small balls to decorate the top with. She added the mint and chives as decoration. Peakles was thrilled to ‘cut’ the cake and see the different layers.
Finally she made pretty patterns by pressing leaves and flowers into the dough.
We have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the 12 Months of Sensory Dough and we look forward to next month when we will be writing about our Nature Led Salt Dough.
If you are a fan of Pinterest then please pop along to the group’s Sensory Dough Board for more inspiration on how to introduce sensory play doughs to your children. Here are this month’s co-hosts and links through to their posts. Such a great wealth of ideas on how to create, experiment and play with this month’s Dough!
