A Christmas Dress – We Love Weekends 7th December 2013

Peakles really wanted a Christmas dress his year.  It  is the first  year that she really is excited about Christmas and has been chattering about Santa and snow and radiators all week.  Yes I had visions of festive central heating but Peakles actually means reindeer!

We have had lots of fun with our advent calendars and making our decorations too!

It is also a very special year as Peakles will be an Angel in her first ever nativity play.  I was going to make her a costume however I saw a lovely Christmas dress in the store which would transform Peakles into an angel.  She looks beautiful in it and no doubt will want to wear her Wellington boots with it as well!  I know Peakles will want to wear her Christmas dress to other festive events too.

As a family we like to attend a lovely remembrance carol service that brings a tear to the eye and joy to the heart.  The grand finale is when they switch on the tree lights.  It burns brightly with the thousand of tiny, twinkling lights.  Each one is sponsored by a family in remembrance of loved ones who are no longer with us.  We all stare at the lights in wonder and awe then slowly we all begin to clap and smile.  Peakles wants to wear her sparkly Christmas dress for this carol service and I think a sparkly angel dress would be perfect .

Peakles will probably wear her dress when we go to watch the Christmas Eve Pantomime.  If you live outside the UK – a pantomime is a comical play based on a traditional tale. With lots of slapstick comedy and silly jokes being told, it entertains both the younger and the older members of the audience.  The hero always wins the heart of the heroine and there is lots of audience participation too!  Then we travel home and have an early supper and try to calm down an excited toddler before everyone goes to bed!  I have a feeling that this toddler may be wearing a Christmas Dress for bed on Christmas Eve too if she can!  If not then it may be that Elf costume instead!

We love Weekends has also been gearing up for the festive season recently!  Here are three posts which caught our attention last week!

First we have a beautiful sensory bin felt tree brought to us by The Keeper of the Cheerios.  The pictures in the post show a happy child thoroughly enjoying her green felt tree!

Then we have a simple idea that sounds brilliant for getting those excited toddlers (and adults!) to calm down by doing this I Spy Game from Pleasantest Thing.  Lovely clear graphics and simple instructions on their free downloadable page.

Finally we have Gingerbread Oobleck from My Nearest and Dearest which just looks like messy, crazy fun.  Sometimes at this festive period children need this.  It looks like such gooey fun that I think some parents would like to play with this too!

If you have a family friendly post you would like to share with We Love Weekends then please add it to the link below.
